What began as a conversation between one Dame and a staff writer for Thrillist, (the wildy popular online lifestyle magazine aimed at the male audience but read by millions of females as well), morphed into a full-length feature story on the experiences of women chefs and line cooks in male-dominated restaurant kitchens. LDNY jumped in with seven Dames who reported their personal stories. The writer, Joe Keohane, gave the LDNY chapter a shout-out in the story’s introduction, and later commented: “You folks are doing the work of the angels.” The story, “Honey, Where’s the Boss?” follows. Congratulations to Charleston Grande Dame author Nathalie Dupree, who specializes in Southern cooking and New York Dame Maricel Presilla, the chef and co-owner of several Latin restaurants in Hoboken who were just named to the 2015 James Beard Foundation's "Who's Who in Food and Beverage in America. They are two of five renowned culinary professionals who will be honored for "significant and unique contributions" to the industry. Induction will be held Monday, May 4 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Well deserved!
