President's Letters

Dear Dames,

I am thrilled to be able to tell you that our founder Carol Brock is now at home and recovering nicely. And in fact, she is feeling so well that she is planning to be at the Scholarship Ceremony and Reception on July 17 when we will be awarding the first annual scholarship in her name. If you’re not away on vacation that day, I do hope you’ll be there to honor Carol and show her how much she means to us. As I’ve told you before, we will also be granting a scholarship in memory of our beloved Aileen Robbins and I’m happy to tell you that her daughter, Ariel, will be there to say a few words about her mother—another reason to be sure to join us on the 17th.

Dame Lori Levy has done an amazing job of securing tables for our SummerDine program. Many of these great deals are still available including dinner for 2 at Dame Lidia Bastianich’s Felidia, lunch for 2 at Café Boulud, dinner for 6 at Dame Surbhi Sahni’s Saar Indian Bistro, and two tables for 2 at  Dame Laura Maioglio’s historic Barbetta. I urge you to visit Eventbrite and book one, or maybe even two or three reservations. 100% of the proceeds from your purchases will go to our scholarship fund and food, wine, and gratuities are all included. On this Friday, July 12, two new spectacular offerings---dinners for 4 at Manhatta and at Untitled at the Whitney Museum will go on sale. We’re hoping that next week even more tables from Union Square Hospitality will become available, so be sure to check Eventbrite regularly at: Monday July 29th, Tuesday August 6th and Monday August 12th to nab your tickets.

Thanks so much to all of you who have already renewed your membership. Please be aware that the deadline is September 1. It couldn’t be a better time to be a member of LDNY—we have lots of exciting programs already planned for fall and beyond including a whole new initiative celebrating our expertise in wine and fine beverages.

Hope you’re all having a good summer, hot weather and all, and of course enjoying lots of lobster, corn, tomatoes, and rosé.
