Women Leaders in

President's Letters

Dear Dames,

Many of you have written to ask me about our dear and amazing founder Carol Brock. I’m happy to tell you that she’s on the mend and is expected to leave the hospital and enter rehab soon and then return to her home in Douglaston. As I receive any significant updates, I’ll be sure to send out bulletins to let you know her progress. Just a short time ago, Carol spoke to us at the Scholarship Dinner at City Tech and, always the visionary, she encouraged us to “think big”. I’m taking her advice to heart when it comes to all things LDNY and hope you will too.

The first thing I’m asking you to do is mark your calendars for some very important dates. On July 17, we’ll be awarding our 2019 scholarships, including one to celebrate Carol Brock’s incredible contributions and another in the memory of Aileen Robbins. Nothing makes me prouder to be a Dame than seeing us help the next generation of women leaders and I’d love to see a huge turnout to show our support for this year’s class of winners and to honor both Carol and Aileen. If you’d like to make a contribution, there is still time to make donations to the scholarships in their names.

In the category of thinking big, we’re expanding this year’s SummerDine to include more venues. Our committee, headed by Dame Lori Levy, is busy soliciting tables at some of the city’s most exciting restaurants as well as wines to pair with them. You’ll be able to book an entire table or a seat at a communal one on Eventbrite at a great value, knowing that 100% of the proceeds will go to our scholarship fund. SummerDine’s a chance to celebrate with fellow Dames, friends, or family. Mark your calendars for Monday July 29th, Tuesday August 6th and Monday August 12th as well as for Thursday June 13 when tickets will go on sale to our membership before being offered to the general public. If you have a favorite restaurant that might like to participate by donating a table, please direct it to summerdine.ldny@gmail.com. This year’s new participating venues include Huertas tapas bar, Pilot, located on a vintage boat moored in Brooklyn, and Del Posto, which just recently rated 3 stars from The New York Times.

Once again, I’m asking each of you to reach out directly to me to let me know what LDNY can do for you and yes, what you can do for the organization. Carol will be happy to know my goals are big but without volunteers, it’s impossible to fulfill them. No contribution is too small. I realize that not everyone has the bandwidth to chair a committee or attend regular meetings but if you have an expertise or an idea that you can contribute, please let us know. If you have organizational skills, can I ask you to step up and help with a single project? Right now, we’re also in particular need of people with design talent to work on programs, presentations, and logos. There are so many of you that we rarely hear from and we want to be more than an item on your resume. Please let us know what would motivate you to be a more involved Dame.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer season that hopefully includes some time for Les Dames d’Escoffier.

Warmly,

Dame Sharon Franke
President
Les Dame d’Escoffier
